The YDA has been part of York for 2 years now. In this short time we have delivered a national Latin champion as well as 3 provincial champs. The classes are instructed by Mr. van Jaarsveld and Simone Galland. They meet once a week in the hall. It is a social dance class where you learn how to do the cha-cha, the rumba, tango, waltz etc. For the ones who would like to take it more seriously there are private classes.
Wow, when we started the York Dancing academy in 2012 with Mr W v Jaarsveld from Outeniqua Hoërskool we never anticipated the results we will get.
The YDA is where all the Yorkies learn how to Cha-cha, Rumba and Salsa under the lead of Mr Van Jaarsveld and Simone Gallant. It is amazing to see that even a front row rugby player can move his hips to the Salsa!
Some of our dancers also participated in different professional competitions during the 2012 and 2013 and returned with excellent results.
Fungai Dube and Jade Phillips partnered up and participated in the SADF Western Cape Autumn Festival where they won first place in 2012 and December 2013 they won the SADF Regional Championship.
Taryn Phillips took part in the SADF Western Cape Social Championship in June 2013 and won a first place. December 2013 she came third in the SADF National Championship.
Hayley Kellermann competed in the SADF National Social Latin Championships in Gauteng during December2012. She won all her sections in the Novice Preliminary section hands-down and was awarded a first place in the Cha-cha, Rumba and Samba sections. During June 2013 she again took part in the SADF Western Cape Social Championship and won all her sections. December 2013 she participated in the SADF National Championships held in Cape Town and again she won.
