The 44th annual “Matric Challenge” took place during the second week of school, as the first stab at it was rained out completely.
More than 130 Matrics and 50 staff participated in this team building event hosted around the Garden Route Dam and the NMMU George Campus. In a ”Challenge” based loosely on “The Amazing Race” teams had to complete certain activities and solve a series of problems to obtain enough equipment and clues to finally build a “transmitter” in order to be “rescued” after “surviving” an air crash.
The competition between the groups and the four Houses (Stuart, Windsor, Lancaster & Tudor) was clearly visible. After hours of sweating, strategizing and communicating, the “transmitters” eventually emerged on the NMMU rugby fields just before midnight. Scores of parents were there to witness the fruits of hours of labour and sweat. The camaraderie and spirit amongst the Matrics was tangible as every single one that started the Challenge successfully completed it – probably a first.
Each of these Matrics will be awarded a “Challenge” lapel badge, which they will undoubtedly wear with pride. A great effort by our seniors – we salute you!
