During the first six days of our December holiday 38 Yorkies (students and staff) braved the long road to Upington for our annual Orange River Rafting Trip.

Day 1 started at school and finished at the Augrabies National Park, just outside Kakemas. We were received with open arms, settled in quickly and were treated to an awesome night visit to the falls themselves . The evening was concluded with a “Boerie “ roll and our first night under the stars.

Day 2 saw us leave after breakfast for our base camp on the farm “Raap-en-Skraap”. After a quick lunch we had the afternoon to ourselves to settle in, swim, chill and gorge ourselves on export grapes. A hearty “bring-and-braai” concluded another fine day.

Days 3, 4 & 5 were filled with fun and fuelled by adrenalin (and good food) as we ran rapids like “Castle Rock”, “Rocky Delight”, “Big Daddy”, “Slot Machine” and “Surf Joy”. Pristine camping sites and loads of good humour saw the 3 days blend into one. The fishing was good, the “gees” fantastic and the company awesome.

Day 6 saw the long trip home – dirty and tired, but absolutely content with life!!!
