We are always excited at York to hear from our Past Pupils and their achievements, so please keep us updated. Attached is a letter from Emily Adair (Matric 2013) and the Great Strides she has made in her Acting Career. Congrats Emily, we’re all very proud of you!!
Hello to the staff of York High
It’s been four years since I left those big blue walls. So I have a lot of news to share.
I’ve always been in love with the arts, and York High completely encouraged that. Mr Moll, I will never forget our production of Noises Off! I still talk and brag about it to people. So it was no surprise when I went to study acting at AFDA.
I majored in screen acting and stage acting and have graduated with a Bachelors degree in Live Performance.
As if getting a degree wasn’t award enough, I managed to walk away with Best Actress in a Stage Performance in my class. It was such an honour and a privilege but something I needed to share with the people who nurtured my love of the art.
Not long after this I managed to land myself a leading role in a professional musical. I will be playing Maureen in the production Rent. It will be at the Artscape in February.
I needed to say thank you to all the staff members who believed in me, who encouraged me to do nothing but seek out my dreams. I often think about my time at York, about how much I learnt and how much positivity was instilled in me and my passions. I am seeking out my dreams now, I’m living the life I always imagined but I know that I’ve got so much more to achieve too.
Mr Moll always reads out his favourite Dr Seuss book at the valedictory assembly- ‘Oh The Places You’ll Go’. Well, Mr Moll these are the places I’ve been so far and things are still happening.
Please keep doing what you’re doing. York High really is a special place.
