Windsor retain their title at Sports Day 2016

York High’s Annual Inter-House Athletics day took place on the 26th of January. It was a day, when inter-house rivalry and sporting prowess came together in a wonderful carnival atmosphere. Not only were the athletes determined and enthusiastic, but the supporters on the stands also contributed to this atmosphere, as they battled it out for the Spirit Cup, which was eventually won by Lancaster.

At the end of the day , Windsor came first with 506 points, closely followed by Tudor with 502 points, then Stuart on 498 points with Lancaster hot on their heels at 436 points.

The day delivered some outstanding results with a total of five new records set by our junior athletes.  Cohen Gallant, a Grade 8 learner, broke three records. These were the U14 200 meters (a record that has stood for 30 years) by 2 seconds, the 100 meters and the Long Jump.  Mario de Lange broke the U15 boys’ discus record and Jemma Hodgson the girls’ U15 record, while Peter Machal equalled the Open Boys’ 100 meter record.

The top individual performers of the day were:
