Sport Overview

A wide range of sport is offered in both winter and summer. The school participates in numerous prestigious tournaments as well as local leagues. In 2014 the 1st Boys and Girls hockey teams were winners of the Adult Southern Cape Leagues whilst the First XV rugby made the finals of the small schools competition for the region. Many Yorkies excel beyond the conventional sports and York has produced many fine sailors, surfers and equestrian stars over the years. Although competing on a national level is important, the aim on the field is to promote the personal qualities of fair play, tolerance, teamwork, commitment and self-esteem.

York is fortunate to have excellent sporting facilities such as :

  • A brand new water based Astroturf for hockey with floodlights
  • Two national quality cricket fields with turf wickets
  • All-weather netball courts
  • 3 upgraded surfaces for tennis courts
