… four provincial Eden squash players…
In the 2021 squash season our players were starved of fixtures as Lockdown regulations prevented many tournaments and most school fixtures. We as York squash however did not stop training, and worked hard throughout 2021.
All was not lost for the year, however, and rays of light appeared in our squash program – the first being the service to the squash courts and sanding of the floors all done by our groundsman (Neil Terblanche) and grounds staff, providing optimal playing and training conditions for our players.
The next highlight of the year was that the Girls first team squash was re-established for the first time in many years. This seemed to inspire more girls in the school to start playing squash and chase down a first team position.
We were able to produce four provincial Eden squash players: Aidan Le Grange, Kobus Van Der Walt, Maya Van Zyl, and Adel Van der Walt. We congratulate these players for their hard work and dedication.
Our squash program is constantly growing and developing but this can not happen without our York learners. I encourage any learner who has a willingness to learn, to come and play squash, either to have fun and stay fit, or to work hard and achieve a valued first team spot.
If squash is not your sport, I encourage all learners to get up and participate in the abundance of opportunities that York provides and give back to the school that provides so much for you.
